The qualification is one part of the pathway

Graduating from a foreign university does not by itself confer the right to practise medicine in India. The applicable rules depend on your circumstances and admission cohort. Read the current National Medical Commission regulations and the notices relevant to you; this guide is an orientation, not a decision on your individual eligibility.

The core framework to understand

For candidates covered by the FMGL Regulations, 2021, the framework includes at least 54 months of medical study, a 12-month internship in the same foreign medical institution, English-medium education, specified subjects and eligibility for registration in the country awarding the qualification. Keep evidence throughout the course

• Retain your admission documents and the curriculum applicable to your cohort.
• Keep records of language of instruction, academic progression and assessments.
• Maintain practical-training and internship records in the required form.
• Preserve correspondence about changes in location, mode of study or programme.
• Request clarification before a transfer or course change affects your pathway.

Build academic habits early

A licensing examination should not be the first time you revisit basic medical concepts. Maintain a regular study routine, connect clinical learning to the underlying sciences and use credible teaching resources. Ask how the university assesses your progress and how you can get support when a subject is difficult.
