Russia’s higher-education landscape includes a broad range of disciplines. If you are interested in engineering, computing, sciences, business or another subject, start with the kind of work and learning that interests you. Then compare the particular programmes that could support that direction.

Undergraduate study

After school, look at the content of the degree rather than the title alone. Two programmes with similar names may put different emphasis on mathematics, laboratory work, projects or professional practice. Ask what you will study in each year and how progress is assessed.

Postgraduate study

Build the conversation around your existing degree and the expertise you want to develop. Compare the programme’s subject focus, required prior study, language and any research or project component. Ask what preparation is expected before enrolment.

For a regulated profession, investigate recognition and professional requirements in the country where you hope to work. A university offer does not automatically establish a professional licence elsewhere.

Language and preparation

Ask whether the programme is taught in Russian, English or another language and whether a preparatory course is part of the route. Check how that preparation affects the total duration, fees and admission timeline. Avoid treating a language year as interchangeable with entry to the degree itself.
